Every year, lakhs of devotees plan their first trip to see Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala. And every year, fraudsters target exactly those people, the ones who don't yet know how TTD booking works. The good news: once you understand a few simple rules, these scams are easy to see coming.
This guide explains the common Tirupati darshan scams, how to stay safe, and how honest assistance is different. We are ONV Yatra, an independent assistance service. We are not TTD, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by TTD. We will never sell you a ticket. Our whole point is to help you book correctly in your own name, on the official portal.
The scams to watch for
TTD has issued safety advisories warning devotees about fraud around darshan and tickets. These are the patterns that show up again and again:
Fake websites. Unauthorised sites copy the look of the official TTD portal, even using images of the Tirumala Srivari temple and the TTD name, and collect online payments for tickets or rooms. TTD has publicly warned about such fake websites. Always check the web address, not just the design.
Fake "VIP" or guaranteed tickets. TTD has flagged people posing as TTD staff and offering VIP darshan tickets in exchange for money. There have also been reports of free or official-price tickets being resold for hundreds or thousands of rupees. No agent, broker, or WhatsApp contact can honestly guarantee you a slot; quota is limited and released by TTD.
Markup and "service fees". Some sellers quietly add a fee on top of the real TTD price, or sell tickets that TTD offers cheaper or free. TTD issues a number of darshan tokens at no cost, so confirm the current free options, prices, and token rules on the official TTD portal before paying anyone.
Asking for your TTD login or OTP. A genuine helper never needs your TTD account password or the one-time password (OTP) sent to your phone. Anyone asking for your OTP is trying to take over your booking or account.
Fake recommendation letters and impersonation. TTD has reported people impersonating TTD officials, including on WhatsApp. Genuine VIP recommendation letters, where they apply, come only from authorised TTD sources, never from random agents online. Treat any unsolicited "official" offer with suspicion.
When the volatile details matter (current prices, release dates, quota numbers, timings), confirm them yourself on the official TTD portal before paying anyone anything.
How to stay safe
A few habits protect you from almost every scam:
Book in your own name, on the official portal. TTD advises booking darshan, accommodation, and seva tickets only through its official website or mobile app: ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in / tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in, tirumala.org, or the official TTD app. The booking should be in the devotee's own name and details.
Never share your OTP or password. Not with an agent, not with a "TTD officer" on WhatsApp, not with anyone. The OTP is the key to your booking; keep it private.
Understand that no one can guarantee quota. If a slot is genuinely available on the official portal, you can book it yourself. If it isn't, no amount of money should change that, and anyone claiming otherwise is not being honest.
Use your real ID and carry the original. Booking on the official portal requires a valid photo identity proof, and darshan is tied to that ID. Enter details that match your ID exactly, carry the same original ID on darshan day, and confirm the current ID rules on the official TTD portal, as requirements can change.
Verify before you pay. If a price, date, or offer looks off, cross-check it on the official TTD portal. TTD also runs toll-free helplines (1800-4254141 and 155257) where you can verify details and report fraud.
How honest assistance is different
There's a real difference between a broker and an honest helper, and it comes down to who holds the money and whose name is on the ticket.
A scammer wants your payment and often your login. An honest assistant wants neither. We don't take ticket money, we don't sell or resell tickets, we don't ask for your TTD login or OTP, and we don't promise VIP or backdoor entry, because no one can honestly promise that.
What genuine assistance does is simpler and safer: it guides you to book in your own name on the official portal, helps you understand which darshan and seva options exist, points you to where quota is released, and saves you from the mistakes that get first-time pilgrims cheated. You stay in control of your account, your money, and your booking the entire time.
That's the whole model. If a service can't explain clearly why it never touches your ticket payment or your OTP, that tells you what you need to know. If you'd like a hand planning your trip the honest way, you can message us on WhatsApp at 6302136089, and we'll guide you to book it yourself.
