Finding a clean, affordable room near the temple is one of the biggest worries for families planning a Tirumala trip. The good news: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) runs a large network of its own rooms, guest houses and free choultries on the hill, and there are also private hotels in Tirupati town below.
This guide explains your real options, how TTD's online advance booking works, and what to do if rooms look "full." We are ONV Yatra — an independent assistance service. We do not sell or resell rooms and we never take your room money; we simply help you book in your own name on the official TTD portal. Always confirm current prices, dates and availability on the official TTD portal before you plan around them.
Your accommodation options at Tirumala
TTD itself provides most of the lodging on Tirumala hill. The official TTD accommodation page lists several categories, including:
- Guest houses and cottages — for example the Sri Padmavathi and Sri Venkateswara guest house areas, plus cottage and bungalow blocks. These are paid rooms in different sizes and price bands. - Choultries and dormitory halls — large blocks with free or very low-cost rooms and dormitory space for families, allotted on the spot when available. - Private hotels and lodges — these are mostly located in Tirupati town at the foot of the hill, not on Tirumala itself. They can be a practical backup, especially for late arrivals or large groups.
Paid TTD rooms come in several tariff tiers, from very budget rooms up to larger cottages. Because TTD revises tariffs and room availability from time to time, treat any price you read elsewhere as indicative only and confirm the live tariff on the official TTD portal.
Online advance booking on the official portal
The simplest way to secure a room is to book it in advance yourself on TTD's official portal: ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in (also reachable via tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in). You log in with your own details (typically your own mobile number and a one-time password), open the Accommodation section, then choose your date, time slot, room category and number of guests, and pay online. Download and save the receipt — you will show it on arrival. The exact on-screen steps can change, so follow the prompts on the live portal.
TTD releases accommodation quota for each period in advance and opens it on a set date. Popular dates and festival periods can fill quickly once the quota opens. The exact release date, the lead time, room categories and prices change, so check the current accommodation quota schedule on the official TTD portal rather than relying on old figures.
One important honesty point: you should book in your own name, with your own details and your own login. Never share your TTD login or OTP with anyone, and be wary of any agent who offers a "guaranteed VIP room" — TTD allotment is not a backdoor.
Spot / current allotment when online is full
If online rooms are exhausted for your dates, you are not out of options. TTD also operates current (spot) allotment on the hill. This is handled through counters at the Central Reception Office (CRO) area near the Tirumala bus stand, where pilgrims register their details and are allotted available rooms — including free choultry rooms and dormitory space — when they become free, with the allotment typically confirmed by SMS.
Spot allotment depends entirely on what is vacant that day, so it can involve waiting, and you should be ready to take whatever category is offered. The counter process, timings and registration steps are updated by TTD periodically, so confirm the current spot-allotment procedure and counter timings on the official TTD portal or at the CRO on arrival.
A practical tip from the official rules: vacate on time. TTD charges steeply enhanced rent for overstaying beyond the checkout window, so plan your departure around your allotted check-in slot.
How ONV Yatra helps (without taking over your booking)
Choosing between a TTD cottage, a free choultry, or a private hotel in town depends on your group size, budget, arrival time and how close to the temple you want to be. That is where most families get stuck.
We help you weigh those options, understand the official advance-booking and spot-allotment process, and time your attempt for when the quota opens — all so you can complete the booking yourself, in your own name, on the official portal. We do not collect your room payment, we do not ask for your TTD login or OTP, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by TTD. Our role is guidance, nothing more.
