Visiting the holy hill of Tirumala is a lifelong dream for many, and the nearby shrines of Srikalahasti and Kanipakam add a delightful spiritual circuit that can be covered without a long break from daily life. Many pilgrims wonder whether they can fit all three in a short trip, and the answer is a warm yes—provided you plan your travel, darshan and stay sensibly.

At ONV Yatra we only share information; we never sell tickets or accommodation. All booking links and timings mentioned below are sourced directly from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) portals, so you can verify them on the official sites before you set out.

Why Combine Tirupati, Srikalahasti & Kanipakam?

All three temples belong to the same spiritual lineage of Lord Shiva and Lord Venkateswara, and they lie within a 50‑km radius of each other. After a darshan at Tirumala, a short drive brings you to Srikalahasti—known as the "Gateway of Heaven"—where the Vayu (air) element is worshipped. Kanipakam, famous for its self‑manifested (Swayambhu) Sri Lakshmi Narasimha, is just a further 15 km from Tirupati city. Visiting them together lets you experience three distinct aspects of devotion while minimizing travel fatigue.

The combo also works well for families: children can enjoy the relatively relaxed atmosphere of Srikalahasti and Kanipakam after the intense Tirumala crowd, and the nearby accommodation options make it easy to rest between visits. Moreover, TTD runs joint transport services on certain days, which can reduce your logistical worries.

Getting There: Transport Options and Distances

Tirupati is well‑connected by air (Tirupati Airport), rail (Tirupati and Renigunta stations) and road. From the city centre, Srikalahasti is about 36 km north on NH 71 and can be reached by state‑run APSRTC buses, private taxis, or auto‑rickshaws. The journey typically takes 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic.

Kanipakam lies roughly 15 km southeast of Tirupati, on the Tirupati‑Kalyanamandapam road. It is a 30‑minute drive by taxi or bus. Many pilgrims prefer hiring a single car for the whole combo; a day‑rent from Tirupati costs around INR 2,000–2,500 (check the official TTD portal for current details). APSRTC also runs a direct bus service (Route No. 2) between Tirupati and Kanipakam.

If you arrive by train, the Renigunta station is a convenient drop‑off point for both Srikalahasti and Kanipakam, as it sits on the same highway. For air travelers, the Tirupati Airport has regular taxi stands that can arrange a round‑trip package covering all three sites.

Temple Timings, Darshan Types and Ticket Booking

Tirumala Darshan operates from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm daily, with special darshan windows (e.g., Vaikuntam, Sarva Darshan) that require advance e‑booking on the tirumala.org portal. Srikalahasti Temple opens at 5:30 am and closes at 10:30 pm; Kanipakam follows the same schedule. Both shrines offer free darshan (no ticket) as well as paid special darshan (e.g., Vahana Seva) that can be booked through ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in.

When you plan the combo, book your Tirumala darshan first, as slots fill quickly, especially on weekends and festival days. For Srikalahasti and Kanipakam you can either walk in during the free darshan window or pre‑book a special seva if you prefer a shorter queue. All bookings must be done on the respective official portals; we recommend completing them at least 48 hours in advance.

Remember to carry a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, etc.) and a printed copy of your e‑ticket. The TTD portal also provides a mobile app ("TTD Tirupati"), which shows real‑time darshan status, queue lengths and nearby accommodation options.

Sample 2‑Day Itinerary for the Combo

Day 1 – Morning: Arrive in Tirupati, check into a TTD‑approved guest house (e.g., Sri Balaji Residency) and rest. Late morning: proceed to Tirumala (Alipiri or Srivari Mettu foot‑path) for your pre‑booked darshan. Afternoon: after darshan, return to Tirupati city, have lunch, and visit the Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple (optional). Evening: attend the Suprabhatam and close‑down pooja at Tirumala if time permits.

Day 2 – Early morning: depart for Srikalahasti (aim to reach before 7:00 am). Perform the ritual bath at the temple tank, attend the Brahmotsavam (if it coincides) or the regular puja. Mid‑day: travel to Kanipakam (about 30 km). Have lunch at a local restaurant and experience the unique Swayambhu Lakshmi Narasimha darshan. Late afternoon: return to Tirupati, collect any remaining souvenirs, and check out of your stay.

If you have an extra half‑day, consider a short visit to the historic Sri Venkateswara College Museum in Tirupati or a relaxing stroll through the nearby Kailasagiri Park before you head back home.

Accommodation, Food & Local Essentials

TTD runs a range of accommodation options from budget dormitories (e.g., Sri Venkateswara Hostel) to deluxe guest houses (e.g., Sri Venkateswara Seva). These can be booked on tirumala.org; note that the allotment for non‑TTD pilgrims is limited, so early reservation is advisable. Private hotels in Tirupati city offer more flexibility and are often located near the bus depot, making transfers to Srikalahasti and Kanipakam convenient.

Meals at Tirumala are served on a ‘prasadam’ basis—vegetarian food prepared in the temple kitchen. For Srikalahasti and Kanipakam, you will find pure‑vegetarian eateries near the temple premises; many also serve the famous Andhra “pappu” and “pulihora”. Carry a refillable water bottle and a small towel, as the summer heat can be intense.

Practical tips: dress modestly (no shorts or sleeveless tops), remove shoes before entering sanctums, and keep your mobile on silent mode. The official TTD portal provides a list of prohibited items (e.g., cameras in certain areas, tobacco). Finally, keep a copy of your darshan tickets and ID handy; security checks are routine at all three sites.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

How many days are needed to cover Tirupati, Srikalahasti and Kanipakam together?
A well‑planned 2‑day itinerary works for most pilgrims—Day 1 for Tirumala and Day 2 for Srikalahasti and Kanipakam. If you prefer a relaxed pace or wish to attend special festivals, add a third night in Tirupati.
Do I need separate tickets for each temple?
Tirumala darshan requires an e‑ticket from tirumala.org. Srikalahasti and Kanipakam offer free darshan, but any special sevas (e.g., Vahana Seva) need separate online booking on ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in.
What is the best way to travel between the three temples?
Hiring a private car for the whole combo is the most convenient, especially if you are traveling with family. APSRTC buses are economical and run regularly, but they may add waiting time.
Are there any special darshan options that cover all three shrines?
TTD currently offers combined packages only for Tirumala. For Srikalahasti and Kanipakam you must book any special darshan separately on the official TTD portal.
Can I book accommodation for all three places together?
Yes. TTD guest houses in Tirupati can be booked for multiple nights, covering your stays for all three temples. Private hotels also allow flexible check‑in/check‑out dates.
What are the dress code and puja rules across the three temples?
All three shrines follow a modest dress code: men should wear dhoti or long trousers; women should wear a saree, salwar‑kameez or a long skirt with a blouse. Shoes must be removed before entering sanctums, and no non‑vegetarian food or alcohol is allowed inside the premises.
